ACUPRESSURE / How does it work?, 7/23/2007
Acupressure is based on a science much farther back than the orgins of allopathy, otherwise known as Western medicine. Acupressure is about the body's 14 meridians that are like pipes that carry energy throughout the body.
Meridians start at the finger tips, connect with the brain, and then connect to the organs throughout the body. Each meridian associates with a specific oran. The Heart Meridian is associated with the Heart, the Bladder Meridian is associated with the Bladder, and so on. All of the meridians are connected with their corresponding organs via the nervous system (through condensed cabling of nerval wiring running through the spine).
If a meridian is "clogged" it is as if there is debris within a water pipe. If the debris is not flushed out with water, the water flow is no longer at optimal flow. When it comes to our optimum health, if the blockage is not removed within a meridian channel, the body cannot receive the optimal amount of energy it is intended to have. This can result in dis ease. Acupuncture unblocks the debris that are located along the meridian pipe-ways allowing the body to receive ample energy and function in optimal health.
Acupuncture, unlike Allopathy, beleives that it is not necessarily the organ that is the root cause of a disease or problem. Acupuncture believes that one must treat the root cause of disease. If someone is going to Western Medicine for indigestion, one would most likely receive some sort of indigestion medicine. Acupuncture agrees that it is most important to identify the meridians that are blocked in finding the source or root cause of illness. Then an Acupressurist would treat the points of root cause, and the body would fall back into int's natural state of homeostasis or balance.
Acupressure treatments are always carried out with pressure not needles.
